Community-building

Learn more about IDHA's community-building programs.

IDHA’s community-building programs work toward sustainable community development to create communities that have strong social networks and are healthy places to live, work, and play.

Intergenerational Program

IDHA understands that the API community spans multiple generations. We recognize the importance of community involvement across generations and the need to strengthen relationships between youth, parents, and grandparents. Intergenerational Program activities are:
•    Mixed level ESL classes
•    Urban and rural outdoor activities that engage youth and elders
•    Weekly neighborhood walking groups
•    Participation in community-wide events

Outreach, Organizing, and Advocacy

IDHA believes that outreach, organizing, and advocacy are vital to the community-building process. Our programs conduct continuous outreach to educate residents on issues and to engage them in neighborhood planning and community-building activities.  With this model, residents become advocates for the entire community, alongside IDHA and other community-based organizations.

Outreach, organizing, and advocacy activities are:

  • Monthly resident meetings
  • Multilingual community outreach
  • Advocacy for clients and community members
  • Community-building discussion forums
  • Community event planning
